Arturo Verástegui
Arturo Verástegui is a Mexican furniture designer and the founder and creative leader of Breuer Studio. Born in Mexico City in 1971, he began working in the furniture industry in the early 1990s alongside his brothers. This experience established a practice grounded in manufacturing, cabinetmaking, and an understanding of wood. His work connects the practical knowledge of the workshop with an interest in sculptural form, developing furniture that combines everyday function with a distinctive material presence.
Experimentation with materials, technologies, and production processes is central to Verástegui’s approach. Through Breuer, he explores the possibilities of contemporary carpentry while maintaining close attention to finishes, construction, and longevity. Wood remains a recurring material, often combined with leather, stone, and metal. His designs develop through the relationship between these elements, allowing their individual qualities to contribute to the character of each piece and the experience of using it.
Boomerang, his first furniture collection, established this dialogue between material research and craftsmanship. The Boomerang console combines solid walnut with black steel and Negro Monterrey marble, while the collection’s lamp brings walnut together with natural white oak. Other designs, including the Helmut armchair and Allen stool, explore different expressions of solid walnut through seating. Across these works, the material provides a consistent foundation for a varied vocabulary of forms and functions.
His Hemisferios collection extends this exploration through five functional pieces defined by contrasting forms and asymmetrical lines. Conceived to create relationships across the group, the pieces encourage attention to their differences as well as their collective composition. Verástegui’s work has appeared at ZONAMACO and Design Week Mexico, and in the Design Within Reach catalogue. Breuer’s Arte y Ebanistería collection presented new pieces at ZONAMACO in 2018, connecting the studio’s workshop expertise with collectible design.
