APPRT2

APPRT2, also known as Appartement2, is a furniture and design studio founded in 2016 by Caroline Grondin and Guillaume Avarguez on Réunion Island. Their practice brings together the island’s tropical influences with French craftsmanship, creating furniture that combines sculptural presence with everyday function. Designed on Réunion and crafted in France, their pieces explore balanced volumes, defined silhouettes, and the interplay between precise geometry and softened curves.

Nature and material character are central to the studio’s approach. Wood, marble, travertine, and expressive colours become tools for developing compositions that feel both structured and playful. The designers pay particular attention to touch, proportion, and the relationship between contrasting surfaces, allowing natural grain and stone patterns to contribute to each piece’s identity. Their collections include tables, seating, consoles, and storage, with selected designs produced in limited editions and offered in custom materials and finishes.

The Diplopoda collection illustrates this connection between natural inspiration and graphic precision. Its sideboard draws on an elongated insect silhouette, translated into a composition of rounded edges and contrasting linear details. In 2021, the Diplopoda sideboard entered the permanent collections of France’s Mobilier national, marking an important recognition of the studio’s work. The piece was subsequently highlighted by The Design Edit in its coverage of the institution’s acquisitions.

With Totemique, APPRT2 extends its sculptural approach into modular furniture. Lacquered storage units can be stacked or arranged into different configurations, with substantial wooden legs and rounded stone handles introducing contrasting shapes and textures. The collection invites owners to compose furniture around their spaces, selecting colours and details that give each arrangement a personal character. Presented at ICFF in New York in 2025, Totemique attracted coverage from Dwell and aspire design and home, which highlighted its adaptable construction, saturated colours, and playful proportions.

APPRT2’s exhibition history includes COLLECTIBLE in Brussels and COLLECTIBLE Curates during Paris Design Week in 2020, followed by international presentations in New York and Milan. The studio received Le FRENCH DESIGN 100 recognition in 2024 and 2026. Its collaborations also include a presentation with French textile house Métaphores for the Bivouac collection, reflecting a practice that connects furniture, textiles, and the atmosphere of an interior through considered craftsmanship.
