Caia Leifsdotter

Caia Leifsdotter is a Copenhagen-based design house founded in 2020 by Swedish designer and creative director Caisa “Caia” Leifsdotter. Her practice spans bespoke cabinetry, furniture, lighting, glassware, and sculptural objects, connecting individual pieces with the spaces they inhabit. Raised in a family of craftspeople, architects, and artists, she developed an early appreciation for making, materials, and objects with history. These experiences inform a practice that combines expressive forms with the practical demands of everyday living.

The forests and coastlines of her Swedish childhood remain important sources of inspiration. Organic contours, tree growth rings, and the textures of the landscape influence both her forms and her approach to materials. Her cabinetmaker father introduced her to the journey from an initial idea to a finished object, while her mother encouraged experimentation. This background supports an intuitive process in which sketches develop into prototypes, balancing creative freedom with the knowledge and discipline of craftsmanship.

Working with wood, steel, marble, glass, and resin, Leifsdotter explores contrasts between natural character and carefully controlled construction. Her Psychedelic Mirrors combine reflective surfaces with resin, producing effects that change with light and perspective. The Silver Roots table draws on childhood memories of counting growth rings in tree trunks, translating that fascination into a sculptural steel form. Across these pieces, material and surface become active elements in the way an object is experienced.

Bespoke interiors extend the same sensibility into kitchens, bathrooms, and wardrobes. Leifsdotter works closely with clients and craftspeople to develop cabinetry that responds to a building’s character while accommodating contemporary use. Her BOW design introduces curved cabinet fronts and integrated grip edges, bringing softness to a functional architectural element. Production draws on European expertise in woodworking, metalwork, and stone, with material choices and detailed construction guiding each project from concept to completion.

In 2025, Caia Leifsdotter presented a solo exhibition hosted by MKDT Studio during Copenhagen’s 3daysofdesign. The installation brought together bespoke kitchens, a bathroom piece, lighting, Silver Roots tables, and additions to the EDEN collection, showing the breadth of her approach. Her work and creative process have also been explored in interviews with Modern Metier and MUNTHE, highlighting the connections between her Scandinavian upbringing, family craft traditions, and interest in functional, expressive interiors.
