Francesco Zonca Studio

Francesco Zonca Studio is an architecture and design practice established in 2020, working between Italy and Japan. Born near Lake Maggiore, Zonca studied building engineering and architecture at the University of Pavia and architecture and urban planning at Tongji University in Shanghai. He began his professional career in Milan before moving to Tokyo to join Sou Fujimoto Architects, later establishing his own studio alongside that work to explore furniture, collectible objects, and interiors.

Zonca’s approach combines clear geometric forms with an appreciation for tactile materials. His experience in Japan has influenced a restrained design language in which curves, lines, and the relationships between solid volumes carry the composition. Wood plays a central role, with finishes ranging from natural oak and Canaletto walnut to burned oak and patinated walnut. These variations allow grain, tone, and surface to give different expressions to the same underlying form.

The Geometrie collection develops this interest through objects that emphasize the simplicity of solid geometry. The Arcaico dining table takes its name from the elementary joint at its center, making construction an integral part of its identity. Alongside the Arco stool and Rotola tabletop object, it explores how a concise arrangement of forms can support everyday use while retaining a sculptural presence. Across these pieces, the clarity of the design directs attention toward the material and its treatment.

The Levante collection introduces a softer expression, taking its name from the easterly wind imagined as smoothing the edges of each piece. Comprising a sofa, armchair, chaise longue, ottoman, and dining table, the collection brings rounded contours into a coordinated family of furniture. Seating combines oak or Canaletto walnut with upholstery in Loro Piana Interiors fabrics, creating a relationship between the visible structure and the softness of the surfaces that meet the body.

Alongside his collectible work, Zonca collaborates with furniture brands, galleries, and private clients internationally. His portfolio includes Nihon, Monolite, and AZ1 for Collector, as well as Riflesso for Yamagiwa, extending his practice across seating, tables, and lighting. Through these collaborations and bespoke interior projects, the studio applies its interest in material, proportion, and geometric clarity at different scales, connecting individual objects with the spaces and routines they inhabit.
