Grzegorz Majka

Grzegorz Majka is a Polish artist and designer born in Krosno whose practice spans collectible furniture, lighting, and sculptural objects. His career began in the stone industry, where he developed extensive knowledge of extracting, cutting, shaping, and finishing natural stone. After beginning interior design studies, which he later interrupted, he continued developing his skills independently. This combination of practical craftsmanship and personal exploration became the foundation of his approach to design.

Working with natural stone, wood, metals, and hand blown glass, Majka creates pieces that explore the relationship between architectural structure and organic form. Stone veining, irregular surfaces, and the evolving patina of metals become integral parts of each composition. His inspiration comes largely from nature and his surroundings, including the mountainous landscapes of southeastern Poland. Designs begin with drawings and, increasingly, experiments in clay, allowing him to refine shapes before translating them into finished objects.

His furniture often brings contrasting materials and geometries into a carefully balanced whole. The Elements series explores this relationship through sculptural tables that pair the unpredictable patterns of natural stone with precisely formed metal structures. Smooth and textured surfaces, curved and angular forms, and contrasting visual weights give each work its distinct character. Produced as unique works and limited editions, his pieces combine everyday function with the presence of sculpture.

In 2024, his Elements V coffee table, a unique work numbered 1/1, was presented at Casa AnKan’s debut exhibition during the first New York edition of COLLECTIBLE. Held at Water Street Projects from September 5 to 8, the fair brought together international voices in contemporary collectible design. Made in Poland, Elements V combines Infinity quartzite with solid aluminium plates finished in textured nickel, expressing Majka’s exploration of natural material and sculptural construction.

His work and creative journey have been featured in FOUR magazine’s “The History Behind Grzegorz Majka Ltd, Crafters of the Most Extraordinary Furniture” and in an interview with Galerie Philia, where he discussed his transition from stone craftsmanship to collectible design, his creative process, and his commitment to simplifying forms while preserving their tactile character.
