Jiri Krejcirik
Jiří Krejčiřík is a Czech designer based in Prague whose practice spans collectible furniture, lighting, objects, and spatial design. He studied product and industrial design at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art in Pilsen and completed a study placement in furniture and interior design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Following years working alongside Czech designer and glass artist Rony Plesl, he debuted under his own name at Designblok in 2019.
His work reinterprets European cultural heritage through a contemporary perspective, bringing historical references into dialogue with sculptural forms and expressive material choices. Traditional craftsmanship and the revival of forgotten artisanal techniques are central to his approach. Working across independent collections, private commissions, and collaborations with manufacturers, Krejčiřík creates functional objects with a strong artistic identity, connecting precise handwork with an experimental approach to proportion and composition.
This relationship between heritage and experimentation is evident in his Kalokagathos table, handcrafted from ash using traditional Czech woodworking techniques, then sanded, stained green, and finished with a transparent matte lacquer. The piece featured in Material Alchemists, Wallpaper*’s exhibition at Triennale Milano during Milan Design Week 2025, which brought together twenty emerging designers and studios distinguished by their exploration of materials. Wallpaper* subsequently highlighted the table in its article “20 emerging designers shine in our ‘Material Alchemists’ film.” His work has also received coverage in ELLE Decoration Japan and designboom, which featured his Ladislava vanity table in November 2024.
Krejčiřík’s work has been exhibited at galleries and design events internationally, including Rossana Orlandi in Milan and Designblok in Prague, and is held in the collections of the Moravian Gallery in Brno. In March 2026, he received both Designer of the Year and the overall Grand Designer title at the Czech Grand Design 2025 awards. The recognition honoured his Emílie and Emil lighting collections for Modernista, B1 paper lamps for SKOBA, and Audio Altar for NOZOMI, reflecting the breadth of a practice that combines individual artistic expression with collaborative production.
