JT. Pfeiffer
JT. Pfeiffer is a textile design studio founded by Argentine designer and creative director Julia Tonconogy Pfeiffer, with a presence in Buenos Aires and New York. Born and raised in Buenos Aires within a family deeply involved in architecture, Julia developed an early interest in the relationship between objects, materials, and space. Her years living and working in New York and Miami shaped a multidisciplinary practice spanning interiors, furniture, graphic design, and visual communication.
Her experience includes the creative direction of Casa de Uco, a boutique hotel and winery in Mendoza, where she oversaw interiors, furniture, and visual identity. This broad understanding of design informs JT. Pfeiffer’s approach to rugs as functional works of art. Through geometric compositions, layered shapes, and expressive color, Julia develops textiles intended to hold a visual presence both on the floor and displayed on the wall.
Handcrafted by skilled artisans in Nepal, the collections incorporate Tibetan wool, silk, and cashmere. Production includes hand knotting, hand tufting, and hand looming, with cut pile, looped surfaces, and hand carved details introducing variations in texture and depth. The relationship between fiber, color, and technique gives each design its tactile character, translating graphic compositions into dimensional textile surfaces.
Personal memories, art, architecture, and travel contribute to the studio’s creative process. Le Jardin, featured in Architectural Digest, was conceived as a tribute to Julia’s late uncle, landscape architect Edmundo Tonconogy. The collection reflects an approach in which rugs carry personal narratives as well as visual expression, connecting the intimacy of lived experience with the craftsmanship of textile making.
Julia has also been featured in Surface’s Designer of the Day series. The studio’s work was also presented in OASIS, Casa AnKan’s immersive exhibition during Miami Art Week 2025.. Alongside this international presence, the studio identifies ethical production as central to its practice, working with GoodWeave certification to support responsible rug making and the prevention of child labor.
