Marc Barold

Marc Barold is a Sydney-based contemporary artist best known for his dynamic large-scale sculptural works. Marc’s artistic approach is influenced by patterns in the evolving world. He is inspired by fluid and organic forms exploring the intersection of the natural and manufactured.

Marc’s work is an odyssey towards what he calls a ‘Future Nature’. A sleek and refined metamorphosis of the natural that is both familiar yet alien. Most recently, Marc has been exploring a new series of works, contrasting organic structured forms with meticulously applied reflective finishes. The works in the series occupy the physical space in unique ways, interacting with light and shadow.

Marc began his sculpting journey at the age of 13. By 1997, Marc had graduated with distinctions in Sculpture from the College of Fine Arts at UNSW. That year, he also won first prize at Bondi’s Sculpture by the Sea. He went on to study Film Art Direction and Design at AFTRS in Australia. This launched Marc’s successful and award-winning international career in production design and fabrication for major live events, installations, film and television.

Marc’s work in production design over the last two decades has consistently influenced his art, each evolving and pollinating the other. The cutting-edge materials and fabrication techniques inspire Marc to work in new and innovative ways, consistently challenging him to seek and explore the unknown, influencing his unique style at the crossroads of fine art, design, technology and the natural world.
