Matlight Milano
Matlight Milano is an Italian lighting studio founded in Milan in 2014 by Matteo Terragni. After a career in international finance, Terragni turned his interest in design and natural materials into a practice dedicated to the relationship between stone and light. His vision established the foundation for collections that combine geometric forms, expressive materials, and Italian craftsmanship.
Guided by the principle “Stone meets light,” the studio creates lighting in marble, onyx, alabaster, and selenite, paired with metals including brass and bronze. Stone is the starting point of each design, shaping how light is transmitted, reflected, or diffused. Natural veining, variations in color, and translucency give individual pieces their distinctive character, while restrained silhouettes allow the materials to remain the focus.
Entirely made in Italy, Matlight Milano’s collections are developed through a network of specialized artisans in Milan and Lombardy. Production combines traditional metalworking and stone craftsmanship with technologies such as waterjet cutting and five axis CNC machining. Brass turning, bending, welding, and surface finishing are coordinated with the shaping of stone, bringing precision to pieces whose appearance depends on the particular qualities of each material.
The collection encompasses table lamps, wall sconces, pendants, floor lamps, and chandeliers. Stone serves both structural and luminous roles, forming sculptural bases or replacing conventional lampshades with translucent surfaces. Alongside its established designs, the studio develops bespoke lighting through close collaboration with architects and interior designers, adapting materials, proportions, and finishes to individual projects.
Matlight Milano has presented its work at Milan’s Fuorisalone and received coverage in publications including Atmosfera and Wallpaper. Its lighting for the Satinine Milano perfumery demonstrates how its material approach extends into architectural projects. Across its work, the studio seeks lasting value through careful construction, natural materials, and a design language intended to endure beyond changing trends.
