MOSS Object

MOSS Objects is an independent lighting brand based in Berlin, founded by designer Daniel Becker. Educated at the Braunschweig University of Art, Becker established his practice around the relationship between material, construction, and light. MOSS Objects extends this exploration through sculptural luminaires that combine precise engineering with an attentive understanding of atmosphere, creating pieces whose proportions and illumination shape the spaces they inhabit.

The brand’s approach centres on modular construction, allowing its lighting to expand and adapt to different architectural settings. Aluminium, brass, steel, and oak provide a material vocabulary chosen for durability and expressive character. Working closely with specialist workshops in Germany, MOSS Objects brings design and fabrication into continuous dialogue, refining connections, surfaces, and structural details through handcrafted production. This process also supports custom compositions and finishes for residential, hospitality, and commercial interiors.

Among its signature collections, Emily explores the sculptural potential of metal shades, with the Emily Oxid variation embracing the distinctive patterns of naturally weathered steel. The collection received a German Design Award in 2019. Charlotte takes a more linear approach, combining a slender brass framework with exceptionally thin LED tubes that appear suspended within its structure. Together, these designs reflect Becker’s interest in the tension between material solidity and visual lightness.

Dune, designed by Daniel Becker and Elisa Bakaniev, translates the flowing contours of desert landscapes into interconnected aluminium shades. Its modular elements form curves, clusters, spirals, and vertical arrangements, allowing the collection to move from intimate domestic settings to expansive architectural installations. Awarded the iF Design Award in 2025, Dune demonstrates the brand’s ability to develop a single construction principle into a varied family of spatial compositions.

MOSS Objects’ work has appeared in publications including Wallpaper*, The New York Times’ T Magazine, and Wohnrevue. Dune was also featured in Visual Atelier 8’s article “MOSS Objects brings a modular language to pendant lighting,” which examined the collection’s curved aluminium forms and adaptability across architectural scales.
