Nadine Hajjar Studio
Nadine Hajjar Studio is a Canadian design practice founded by Lebanese designer and maker Nadine Hajjar. Born in Beirut, Hajjar began her career in interior architecture before moving to Milan to specialise in furniture and industrial design. She later established her studio in Montréal, where she designs and produces furniture, lighting, and sculptural objects. Her work brings together the memories of her Mediterranean childhood, her architectural background, and a direct, personal relationship with craftsmanship.
Storytelling is central to her practice. Each piece begins with an idea, an experience, or a moment she wishes to capture, expressed through shape, texture, function, and the interaction of light with its surface. Organic forms and gentle lines give her objects a sense of softness, while unexpected details introduce humour and playfulness. Sculpture remains an integral part of her approach, allowing everyday objects to carry an expressive character beyond their practical purpose.
Wood holds a particular importance in Hajjar’s work, alongside glass, metal, clay, and plaster. Her process moves from sketches to small models and prototypes, with ideas refined through making. Carving and shaping materials offer a sense of calm that she translates into the finished pieces. In the Galet collection, rounded wooden forms recall pebbles gathered and stacked beside the Mediterranean Sea, turning childhood memories into sculptural furniture. Her Coralis collection similarly draws on her Mediterranean origins through expressive organic forms.
Hajjar’s work has been presented internationally, including at WantedDesign in New York, exhibitions in Paris and Montréal, and House of Today’s 2018 “Elevate” exhibition in Beirut. Her studio also lists works in the permanent collection of Montréal’s Musée des Maîtres et Artisans du Québec. Her background and workshop practice were featured in Baron Mag’s “L’histoire de bureau de Nadine Hajjar, artiste ébéniste,” while Isola Design presented her work in “Soft Geometry: The Sculptural World of Nadine Hajjar.” These presentations reflect a practice grounded in personal narrative, material exploration, and the connection between sculpture and daily life.
