Sanaa Design Studio

Sanaa Design Studio is the multidisciplinary practice of American artist Sarah Jones, based in Staunton, Virginia. Born in 1990, Jones is a self taught visual artist whose work encompasses relief sculpture, three dimensional objects, painting, and murals. Her early creative development was influenced by her father, painter Jerome Jones, while her professional background as a pastry chef introduced techniques and ways of working that continue to inform her art.

Before dedicating herself fully to her studio practice, Jones worked in the culinary field in Virginia and Washington, D.C. The precision, experimentation, and hands on processes of pastry making became a foundation for exploring unconventional sculptural methods. In 2020, she returned to the Shenandoah Valley and began developing her practice full time, establishing a studio where material exploration could extend across disciplines.

Working with gypsum, acrylic, enamel, ink, and fiber, Jones creates layered surfaces distinguished by sweeping textures and dimensional forms. Some works incorporate light, extending their presence through illumination and shadow. Nature, travel, and cultural experiences inform her compositions, while spirituality remains a personal source of meaning, often expressed through titles that reference scripture and invite reflection.

Her practice has developed through residencies at the Skopelos Arts Foundation in Greece and Jan Ernst Studio in Cape Town, South Africa. Exhibitions include Solid Rock at Mary Baldwin University in 2024 and Home at Second Street Gallery in 2025. Alongside her studio work, Jones teaches painting and sculpture and contributes to community projects, connecting artistic expression with education and shared experience.

In 2025, Sanaa Design Studio participated in OASIS, Casa AnKan’s exhibition at Alcova during Miami Art Week. Created exclusively for the exhibition, No Stranger II combines gypsum, acrylic, and wool to explore texture and perception. The work was featured in Design Milk’s article “In the Middle of Miami Art Week, a Desert Oasis Awaited,” while the studio’s participation was also highlighted in Martyn White’s “Alcova Miami 2025: A Quiet Garden on the Miami River.”
