Studio Bazazo

Studio Bazazo is a multidisciplinary design practice based in Beirut, Lebanon, founded by architect and designer Ahmad Bazazo in 2017. A graduate of the American University of Beirut’s architecture program, Bazazo works across furniture, lighting, and interiors. His practice explores how objects shape the moments people share, drawing on the cultural and historical context of each project to create connections between material, memory, and everyday experience.

Beirut’s overlapping histories and contrasting ways of life inform the studio’s approach. Bazazo considers the people, activities, and atmospheres that will surround a piece, allowing these observations to guide its development. Collaboration with skilled artisans is central to the process, particularly in the construction of intricate connections between materials. Marble, brass, travertine, wood, and upholstery become tools for exploring structure, comfort, and the sensory qualities of an interior.

The studio’s debut Black & Gold collection, introduced in 2017 under its original name, Studio A, drew on Art Deco geometry and mid-century references. Among its early works, Charles Bar combines storage with a movable marble frame that reveals and conceals its compartments, making interaction part of the design. The later Mistral collection takes inspiration from the atmosphere of southern France in the 1970s, using curved forms and cylindrical supports to give substantial materials an impression of lightness.

Collaborative projects extend Bazazo’s interest in memory and cultural identity. For Seasons of Migration, developed with Design East and Jaipur Rugs, he worked with artisan Sushila on a hand-knotted rug exploring the experience of belonging and transience in Lebanon. Presented as part of Art Dubai in 2024, the project gave the participating artisans creative freedom within the collaboration. Another work, If Walls Could Talk, drew inspiration from the Palmyra Hotel and involved craftspeople from Baalbek.

Studio Bazazo has presented its work at international design events, including Downtown Design in Dubai and Paris Design Week. In 2024, it participated in Routes to Roots, an Isola and Ithra exhibition during Milan Design Week, and introduced Drape lighting pieces at We Design Beirut. The studio’s approach has also been explored in Adorno and Acumen, with coverage examining its material experimentation, historical references, and attention to the relationship between objects and lived experience.
