Elis Monsport

Elis Monsport is the creative practice of Czech artist and designer Eliška Monsportová, whose work spans glass engraving, sculptural objects, furniture, and architectural installations. Born in 1996, she studied ceramics in Ostrava before joining the glass studio at Prague’s Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, UMPRUM, under Rony Plesl. This grounding in different materials informs a practice that brings together artistic expression, technical experimentation, and the intimate knowledge gained through making by hand.

Nature is central to Monsport’s imagination. Mountains, rock formations, landscapes, and the changing relationships between light and texture provide a visual language that she translates into glass. Travel offers time to observe and develop ideas, often visualizing objects before beginning work in the studio. Her designs combine smooth geometric forms with irregular, organic surfaces, allowing the reflective and transparent qualities of glass to become part of the composition. Mirrors, in particular, offer a meeting point between the object, its surroundings, and the person looking into it.

Her process involves direct participation across multiple stages of production, from developing designs and molds to forming and engraving the glass. Working predominantly with unique pieces and small series, she maintains a close relationship between concept and execution. Her portfolio includes the Folds mirror wall objects, the Artisanal Coffee Table, and Cabinets of Secrets, extending her exploration of surface and reflection into functional furniture. Across these works, engraving serves as a central means of giving glass texture, imagery, and individual character.

Monsport also collaborates with architects and private clients on bespoke glass for interiors. Her architectural work encompasses partitions, shower screens, engraved windows, lighting, and large wall installations, with shape, color, and material developed around each setting. Projects include wall lights for Taro restaurant and a large glass wall in Vratimov. These commissions expand the scale of her practice while preserving the detailed craftsmanship and personal approach found in her smaller objects.

Her work has been presented at international exhibitions including Colours of Transparency at London Design Fair in 2018, Designblok in Prague, and COLLECTIBLE in Brussels in 2024 and 2025. She also participated in COLLECTIBLE New York in 2024. Through these presentations, Monsport brings her interpretation of Czech glassmaking into contemporary collectible design, exploring how a familiar material can shape the atmosphere and experience of a space.
